Ellie is a smart baby monitor focused on helping parents effortlessly keep an eye on their baby's activities. Their unique baby care and monitoring products are designed to simplify the journey of parenthood. Leading baby safety and mom and baby care industries, Ellie aims to provide peace of mind to new parents with reliable and trustworthy AI baby care products.

Before adopting Agora, Ellie’s AI baby monitor relied on traditional peer-to-peer (P2P) connections for real-time audio and video streaming, resulting in inconsistent performance, poor media quality, and noticeable delays - especially in regions with weaker internet infrastructure. These limitations directly impacted the reliability of real-time monitoring, where clear, uninterrupted audio and video are critical.
Ellie also lacked real-time visibility into quality of experience (QoE), making it difficult to detect and resolve issues quickly. The team needed a scalable solution to ensure stable, high-quality streaming while supporting AI-driven safety features and future web expansion. Without this, Ellie risked reduced user trust and inconsistent monitoring experiences.

Ellie partnered with Agora to upgrade its real-time monitoring capabilities by combining Agora’s global real-time engagement network with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Audio and video streams from the baby monitor were transmitted through Agora’s Software-Defined Real-Time Network (SDRTN®), ensuring low latency and reliable connectivity across varying network conditions. Based on usage requirements, relevant media streams were selectively routed to AWS, where they were processed within designated regions using Elastic Load Balancing to maintain performance and availability.
Within AWS, workloads were handled inside a secure Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), with Amazon EC2 instances supporting real-time processing through Agora’s Conversational AI Engine. This enabled Ellie to enhance audio and video quality while using Agora Analytics to monitor quality of experience (QoE) in real time and quickly resolve issues.
The architecture supported AI-driven features such as cry detection, movement monitoring, and activity tracking, with Amazon Bedrock (Claude 3.5 Sonnet) providing foundation model inference for intelligent analysis and contextual alerting. Processed insights and media streams were delivered back through Agora’s network, enabling a seamless, real-time monitoring experience.

Following the implementation of the real-time communication solution, Ellie significantly improved the reliability and quality of its baby monitoring experience. By combining Agora’s low-latency streaming with AWS infrastructure—including Amazon EC2, Amazon VPC, Elastic Load Balancing, and Amazon Bedrock—Ellie addressed key challenges around unstable connections, poor audio and video quality, and limited visibility into performance.
The enhanced infrastructure enabled Ellie to deliver a more dependable and responsive experience at scale, while also accelerating the rollout of AI-driven features such as cry detection and movement monitoring. With improved observability and system efficiency, the team could proactively manage performance and iterate faster on product enhancements.
In addition, optimized bandwidth utilization and a more efficient architecture contributed to improved cost efficiency and stronger ROI, empowering Ellie to scale its offering while maintaining performance and user satisfaction.
